The APGAR Score for Newborns, Post Delivery.
You might hear health care providers give a newly delivered baby something called an APGAR Score. The image above breaks down the APGAR Score. The letters in the APGAR acronym stand for; Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity and Respiration. Each of these are scored on a scale from 0-2, then the scores are added up to find the newborns’ APGAR Score.
Zero(s) show where an infant may be struggling, and 2’s are considered optimal when assessing newborns.
Feel free to ask your health care provider any questions you have about the APGAR Score, even before delivery.
